Around Azeroth: One brief shining moment

With their constant dabbling in hellfire, shadow magic, and the summoning of demons, it’s fairly clear where warlocks are going to spend their afterlife. And after witnessing this brief preview of the Pearly Gates through a graphical glitch in Howling Fjord, Tiandreyn of <Corporal Punishment> on Grizzly Hills is glad her destiny lies below. “If this is what the heavens look like, this warlock is relieved the Light is not with her,” she wrote. I’m sure the priests are pretty relieved too. Do you have any unusual, beautiful or interesting World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We’d love to see them on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@gmail.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next! Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. Please include the word “Azeroth” in your post so it does not get swept into the spam bin. We strongly prefer full screen shots without the UI showing — use alt-Z to remove it. Please, no more battleground scoreboards, Val’kyr on mounts, or pictures of the Ninja Turtles in Dalaran. Older screenshots can be found

It’s that time of year again — if you (like me) haven’t gotten gifts for everyone on your list, it’s time to start scrambling to find something nice to get under the tree this year. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry about finding something good for the World of Warcraft fan in your life: we’ve got you covered there. In the gallery below, we’ve got a nice bunch of gift ideas for everything Warcraft, from the cheap to the expensive, from the silly to the practical, from in-game presents you can wrap with shiny paper, to out-of-game classics that you can… also wrap with shiny paper. If you need to give a gift to a WoW player this year, you’ll find it below for sure. And if you happen to be a Warcraft player, faced with the annual awkward question of “What do you want me to give you this year?”, just feel free to drop this link surreptitiously as a reply, maybe even with a hint or two towards a specific item. Signed World of Warcraft: Cataclysm poster up for auction on eBay

Up on eBay until December 7th at 5:00 p.m. PST is this World of Warcraft: Cataclysm poster signed by Blizzard designers and other members of the WoW team. This auction is entirely for charity, with 100% of the proceeds going towards the Southern California Golden Retriever Rescue. We’ve been able to verify this auction’s authenticity through an anonymous source. We are certain all of the signatures are from the World of Warcraft team at Blizzard. However, this is not an official Blizzard auction — but just something that everyone participated in as a nice thing to do. This is the kind of collectible anyone reading this site would probably want. I know the WoW.com team began bidding furiously when we learned of its legitimacy. I imagine many of you will as well. When we learned of the poster the top bid was at $42, however now it’s up to $100. Something tells me it won’t stay there for long. Update: We want to note the person running the auction has updated their post to say that this is a print of the original item.

WoW Moviewatch: Bad Romance

Warning: There’s some slightly not-safe-for-work imagery at the opening of this video. I’ve stared pretty intently at the film. And while there’s not much that would directly lead it to an “R” rating, it’s still a little risque for the cubicle farm. Try to watch this one at home. Bad Romance by Quixotica came highly recommended to me by Selserene. How could I not leap to check out a video with that kind of recommendation? When I viewed the film, I was in no way disappointed. Quixotica managed to create a breathtaking, beautiful video. Some of the dialogue is a little funny. “Purr for daddy” has become one of my favorite joke-lines around the house, and you can imagine how much my beloved fiancee loves hearing it. But I think Quixotica created this video with that kind of satire in mind, and I think she really drove home the genre and theme of her video. It’s about betrayal and hope, and she relies on a certain level of tongue-in-cheek self-awareness to keep those themes from becoming over-powering. If it had been any more over the top, it would have entered Twilight levels of angsty silliness. Quixotica should be commended for her artistic vision, and her ability to bring together video imagery with a wonderful soundtrack.

It Came from the Blog server outage party

When Emberstorm and Whirlwind battlegroups went down due to a massive power outage and nastiness resulting from it, we invited displaced players to join us in our It came from the Blog guild on Zangarmarsh. And they did. For the most part, it was a guildchat party, but many of us gathered for a picture outside of Silvermoon to commemorate the occasion. I also offered ports to Shattrath so people could set their hearthstones. I’m not used to giving ports, however, so I accidentally ported just myself on one occasion. Oops. Joining us for the party were Adam Holisky, Michael Sacco, Matt Low and Kelly Aarons. We all had a great time hanging out together and getting some cooking done. Just because we had this impromptu get together doesn’t mean we’re still not going to Party like Pilgrims on Wednesday night, however. Everyone is invited, so come join us at 11pm EST on Zangarmarsh, Wednesday night for some Pilgrim’s Bounty fun.

Pilgrim’s Bounty FAQ

Around the feast areas, at least on my own server, I’ve seen the same questions keep popping up about the new holiday, Pilgrim’s Bounty. I thought it might be helpful to try answering them here. By necessity, these are a little general; if you want a closer look at getting the holiday achievements, please read our updated guide to Pilgrim’s Bounty achievements. Help! Where do I go to get started? Go to any of your faction’s major cities and find the feasting area. For Alliance, head to Stormwind, Ironforge, or Darnassus: for Horde, head to Orgrimmar, Undercity, or Thunder Bluff. While you can start the holiday in either the Exodar or Silvermoon, it’s a little faster to start in any of the “classic” cities because you don’t pick up any quests in their BC counterparts. Where are the feasting areas located? Alliance Ironforge: directly outside the main gates to the city. Stormwind: directly outside the main gates to the city. The Exodar: directly outside the main entrance to the city. Darnassus: in the small courtyard directly west of the city gates (where the training dummies are located). On PvE servers, Horde players will not get flagged visiting the tables at Ironforge and Stormwind for Pilgrim’s Peril. You will get

WoWTCGLoot giving away an X-51 and other prizes

Our good friends at loot card database WoWTCGLoot.com (they’ve helped us out with some good contests in the past) are giving away some loot card codes of their own this week. They’ve put a short quiz on their site, and just for filling it out, you’ll be eligible to randomly win one of twenty-three loot card codes, including a chance at an X-51 Nether Rocket mount (seen above), a Foam Sword Rack, an Imp in a Ball, or a Path of Cenarius. All of them are awesome (though, let’s be honest, that rocket mount is a little cooler than the others), and all the cards work on US or EU realms, so no matter where you’re reading this from, they could be yours. Like I said, just run over to the site and answer the quiz questions (hint: both answers can be found by following links from this post) before November 25th, and after that, 23 of you will be giving thanks for the loot card codes you’ve won. Good luck to everyone, and thanks again to WoWTCGLoot.com for putting this on.
